Hans Memling (born around 1435 in Seligenstadt, died 11 August 1494 in Bruges) is the Dutch representative of early rebirth in Europe.

Memling was one of the richest inhabitants of Bruges. Its principals were mainly rich inhabitants - burghers, merchants, monks. His work was particularly appreciated in Italy. He is credited with the authorship of about 80 works. The artist specializes in performances of Madonn and Child and mysterious performances.

Hans Memling's painting is characterized by an intimate mood, decorative colours and the idealization of female characters popular at that time.
