William-Adolphe Bouguereau (born 30 November 1825 in La Rochelle, died 19 August 1905 in La Rochelle) - French representative of academism. Bouguereau was an extremely prolific painter and enjoyed great popularity. Thanks to this, he earned very well, and for his achievements in art he received numerous salaries and awards. Characteristic of his art were great figural compositions on religious, mythological and historical themes. He specialized in idealized female nudes.
