Hieronymus Bosch (born around 1450 in 's-Hertogenbosch, 9 August 1516) is a Dutch painter and draftsman of the late Gothic breakthrough. His work is characterized by extremely complex symbolism, often based on the notion of human sin and the imperfection of human nature.
Bosch's painting was an inspiration for 20th-century surrealists. The author mainly used the technique of oil paints and drawings. Fantastic motifs interwoven with religious motifs are one of the most recognizable motifs of Bosch's work. In late periods, there are images of saints (John the Evangelist or John the Baptist).
Selected works: St. John the Baptist, Wanderer, Carrying the Cross, Crucifixion with donor, St. Anthony's temptation, final judgment.
