Bartolomé Esteban Pérez Murillo (born 31 December 1617 in Seville, died 3 April 1682) is a Spanish painter, a representative of the Baroque era. Orphaned at the age of 10, he was placed under the care of his sister, who took care of his artistic education.
He was one of the founders and first president of the Academy of Fine Arts. He created mainly religious paintings and genre scenes. He left behind about 500 works of art.
