Peter Paul Rubens (born 28 June 1577 in Siegen, died 30 May 1640 in Antwerp) is a Flemish Baroque painter.
The artist, appreciated during his lifetime, gained a real fortune thanks to his dexterity in dealing with people and his extraordinary ability to organize and sell. Apart from painting, diplomacy proved to be a great passion of his life. The combination of these two fields made each visit to European courts provide him with new orders.
The rubens nudes, which became a symbol of Baroque painting, have gained special fame.
Rubens left behind about 2,000 paintings and 4,000 drawings. His creative period lasted exceptionally long, because more than 40 years.
