Franz Marc (born February 8, 1880 in Munich, Germany, died March 4, 1916 in Verdun, France) is a German painter and co-founder of the Blue Rider Expressionist group, which he led on a par with August Macke.
In his works there is often a longing for connection and an important relationship between man and nature. Mythology and its companion animals, especially the horses adored by Marc, also play an important role. Giving colours symbolic meanings (red combined with violence, blue with spirituality) also turned out to be a special hallmark of the painter.
